Turbine Labeler: Label Fields Guide

Every field the Turbine Labeler can print, and what each label description slot holds for each label type.

Overview

Every label the Turbine Labeler prints is built from the same small set of fields: a barcode ID, a label type, and up to nine text lines called label descriptions. Turbine fills those slots differently for each kind of label, so "Description 3" on a stock label means something different from "Description 3" on a batch label.

Labels fall into eight groups: stock, job, vendor batch job, order, batch, box batch, bin and cart, and custom handling tags. Your label template decides which slots actually appear on the printed label; a slot that a label type doesn't fill comes through blank.

Basic fields

These 11 fields are all the labeler can receive from Turbine. Map them in your label template.

Field

What it holds

ID

The scannable barcode value. Its prefix tells you what was scanned (for example S = stock label, BA = batch, L = order label).

Label Type

A short code for the kind of label (for example CASE, PRINT, INV). Useful as a large header.

Label Description

The main title line: usually a SKU, bin name, or batch name.

Label Description 2

Secondary line; meaning depends on label type.

Label Description 3

Meaning depends on label type.

Label Description 4

Label Description 5

Label Description 6

Label Description 7

Label Description 8

Meaning depends on label type.

Label Description 9

Only used by order labels.

Two label types also send extra fields: Bin-family labels send a Sort ID (the bin's number, for sorting a print run), and Vendor Batch job labels send a structured Personalization block.

What each label type prints

Slots not listed for a label type are sent blank. Dates print as MM/DD/YYYY.

Stock labels (Case, Single, Job, Unlabeled)

Printed at receiving, case-to-singles, batch labeling and job labeling. ID starts with S (or ULS for unlabeled). Label Type is CASE, SINGLE, JOB or UNLABELED.

Custom handling tags

ID is the tag number and Label Type is the tag type (for example standard). The tag name is split on dashes: the first part goes to Label Description, the next parts to Descriptions 2 through 6. A tag named FRAGILE-Hand Fold-Tissue prints FRAGILE, Hand Fold, Tissue.

Changing what prints

  • Hide or move a field: edit the label template in the Turbine Labeler app. Every slot is always sent, so you can rearrange freely.

  • Change what a slot contains: slot contents are set inside Turbine, not in Settings. Contact support with the label type and slot you want changed.

  • Blank slot on a label: check the tables above. Many values are blank by design, such as ship-by date on inventory labels or Film Batch on non-DTF jobs.
